The history of the Longines brand.
 
 
The Longines watch company located in Saint-Imier was founded by Auguste Agassiz in 1832. The company owns the oldest registered commercial logo and is currently owned by the Swatch Group.
 Longines became famous primarily for its aviator watches. One of the directors of the company was a personal good friend of Charles Lindbergh, and after his trans-Atlantic trip, the pilot designed a watch that made flying easier. This watch was made for him by Longines and completely adapted to his needs. The company still produces this model to this day.
 Famous pilots and explorers alike visited Longines. Longines also supported the first modern Olympic Games. In 1899, Longine traveled to the North Pole with the explorer Louis Amédée de Savoie. At the 1912 Federal Gymnastics Tournament in Basel, Longines also provided the timekeepers. The company also provides timers for the Tour de France and Formula 1. It is therefore no coincidence that nowadays Longines is widely known for both its sports watches and chronographs.
Since its foundation in 1832, Compagnie des Montres Longines Francillon S.A. has been one of the world’s leading watch companies. The company celebrated its 175th birthday in 2007.
 The history of Longines began in 1832, when Auguste Agassiz got a job in the small village of Saint-Imier at Comptoir Horloger Raiguel Jeune. As early as 1833, he and two partners took over the management of the company, and they continued their activities under the name Comptoir Raiguel Jeue & Cie. At that time, the company still operated in accordance with the prevailing business model, i.e. raw materials and components were delivered to external watchmakers, they assembled them in their homes, and the company bought back the finished pieces from them.
