Trench watch history: The big event that changed the way watches were worn was the outbreak of the First World War. Because of the war, they began to declare an increasingly important role in the measurement of time. In the frontline conditions, it turned out that it is difficult to take out the pocket watch kept in the breast pocket in the trenches, and it is also a difficult task to count the distance of the shot. The solution to the problem was the trench watch, which was practically a pocket watch, on which two lugs were soldered, and a strap was threaded through it and thus fastened to the arm. This resulted in the formation of a market in many countries affected by the war, including Hungary, aimed at providing equipment for soldiers going to the front. The soldiers returning from the war continued to wear their watches on their wrists, and this custom was gradually passed on to the next generations. All in all, it can be said that people first started to wear the watch on their wrists as a result of coercion, the conditions on the front line, as well as the further masculine work activities demanded it. After that, the works dragged the fashion with them, so over time it developed that later it was no longer only worn by those who needed it. Another interesting thing is that the first arm-worn watch that people today would recognize was made for a Hungarian man. Precisely in 1876, the structure was completed for Baroness Koscowicz in Budapest, and not just any manufacturer; namely, it was made by Antoni Patek and Adrien Philippe, the founders of the world's best and most famous watch factory. During the First World War, many companies including Omega, Rolex, Longines, Elgin and others produced trench watches for the army.
